I'm the first person in my family to go to university. I'm studying an accounting degree at Atlanta State College, and I'm one term away from graduating. I have worked as a night-shift cleaner to pay my way, but this term my hours were cut and I have an unpaid balance of $4,050. The registrar has told me I can't enroll for the next term until the balance is cleared. I have a 3.8 average, and my professor has written in support of my application for a payment plan. Graduating means a stable job and the chance to support my younger siblings. Without enrolling this term I'd lose my place and my scholarship eligibility. I'm not asking for a handout - I want to finish what I started and then help the next student. Everything raised goes to the university's accounts office toward the outstanding balance and the final term's fees. Where the $4,050 goes: • Outstanding tuition balance: $1,700 • Final term tuition: $1,750 • Exam and lab fees: $250 • Textbooks and materials: $350 With deep gratitude, Carolina

  • thinking of you and your family, Carolina. This could happen to any of us. Greetings from Jakarta.

    • Hope it all works out, Carolina. Everyone deserves a bit of help sometimes. My cousin had a similar thing happen so this one hit home. All the best.

      • Keep going. Gave what I could, wish it was more. My late mom used to say help given quietly counts double. All the best.
