Carlos is the first person in the family to go to university. He is studying a degree in civil engineering at the Recife Institute of Technology, and is two terms away from graduating. He has worked as a library assistant to pay the way, but this term the hours were cut and there's an unpaid balance of $900.
The registrar has said Carlos can't enroll for the next term until the balance is cleared. Carlos has a first-class average, and an academic advisor has written in support.
Graduating means a stable job and the chance to support the younger siblings. Without enrolling this term Carlos would lose his place and scholarship eligibility.
Carlos isn't asking for a handout - He wants to finish what He started and help the next student.
The payment will go directly to the the Recife Institute of Technology bursar's office. I'll post the receipt.
Where the $900 goes:
• Textbooks and materials: $80
• Exam and lab fees: $70
• Final term tuition: $750
I'll pay this kindness forward the moment I'm able to.
