Volunteers in San Jose are raising $2,650 for a sensory garden for children with autism at the Freedom vacant lot.

For twelve years the neighborhood has asked for a sensory garden for children with autism. This year a group of 21 volunteers, including a group of teenagers, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Freedom vacant lot, but no funding.
We have received donated soil and plants, and the remaining cost is $2,650.
It will serve about 265 people, including local farmers and market traders. We'll hold a build day in November and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered.
Where the $2,650 goes:
• Materials: $1,700
• Permits and inspections: $210
• Safety equipment and signage: $410
• Tools hire and delivery: $330
