After a deviated septum causing chronic infections, Sophie was cleared for valve repair surgery, but the bill is more than we can manage.

In February I was diagnosed with a deviated septum causing chronic infections. My surgeon at Birmingham Regional Medical Center recommended valve repair surgery, and I have been placed on the schedule for May. The hospital's financial office gave me a written estimate of $6,250, and after what my insurance will pay, I'm still $3,150 short. Doctors at Birmingham Regional Medical Center told me a deviated septum causing chronic infections will get worse without valve repair surgery. I work as a delivery rider, and I have saved what I can, but the estimate of $6,250 is far beyond what I've. Until the surgery I can't work full days, and my hours as a delivery rider have already been cut. Every week of waiting means more pain and a bigger risk. The recovery period is expected to take about 6 weeks. I'll not be able to look after the children alone during that time, so this has become a financial emergency as well as a medical one. The money goes straight to the treatment bills, and I'll share the invoices as they're paid so you can see exactly what your gift did. Where the $3,150 goes: • Travel and lodging for the family: $400 • Hospital stay (4 nights): $2,350 • Pre-operative tests and imaging: $400 If you can't give, please share this page. It does reach people.

  • You're not alone, Sophie. Hope you get there. Love from Catania.

    • Sending strength. It takes guts to ask. Well done. We lost years of savings to something like this so I get it. God bless.
