Stop the eviction: 5 months of rent for Efe's family in Ikeja
A car accident left Efe short on rent for 5 months; help us stay in our home.
🇳🇬 Ikeja, Lagos, Nigeria654 views
When my hours were cut in half in July, Efe fell 5 months behind on rent. Last Friday a notice to vacate was taped to the door, and the amount owed is $500.
The landlord was understanding for a while, but has now been clear: if the arrears aren't cleared by October, the family must leave.
There are three school-aged children at home. Moving would mean new schools, a new commute and no deposit to put down anywhere else.
Efe has started working extra hours at a market stall, and is applying for help from local services, but nothing will arrive in time without the rest of the gap covered here.
Funds go to the landlord and nowhere else. Any amount left over after the arrears are cleared will go toward next month's rent.
Where the $500 goes:
• Late fees and court costs: $60
• First month of rent as a buffer: $70
• Rent arrears (5 months): $370
Thank you so much.

stay strong, Wunmi. A secure home matters so much. Hope you're settled soon. After 17 years in social work I know how hard it's to ask for anything.
Praying for you. I hope things turn around soon. I have a 6 year old who wants to send good wishes too. God bless
