Stop the eviction: 4 months of rent for Ruan's family in Paarl

A long illness left Ruan short on rent for 4 months; help us stay in our home.

Paarl
When my hours were cut in half in June, I fell 4 months behind on rent. Last Tuesday a 10-day notice to quit was taped to my door, and the amount I owe is $1,000. My landlord has been understanding for a while, but he has now been clear: if the arrears aren't cleared by September, we must leave. I have a toddler and a baby at home. Moving isn't just an expense - it would mean new schools, a new commute and no deposit to put down anywhere else. I have started working evenings as a cleaner, and I'm applying for help from local services, but nothing will arrive in time without the rest of the gap covered here. Funds go to the landlord and nowhere else. Any amount left over after the arrears are cleared will go toward next month's rent. Where the $1,000 goes: • First month of rent as a buffer: $270 • Rent arrears (4 months): $680 • Utilities in arrears: $50 If you're reading this, thank you. - Ruan

Thinking of you and your family. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. Thinking of Paarl.
