Standing with Una: kidney cancer treatment costs

Una is facing kidney cancer and the cost of treatment, travel and care at home is far beyond what the family can cover.

Una was diagnosed with kidney cancer in August. The oncology team at Dublin Cancer Centre has planned 8 rounds of treatment, starting in November. She will be away from work for about 7 weeks. Una is 41, worked as a primary school teacher until August, and has always been the one who looks after everyone else. Now it's our turn to look after her. Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, trips to Dublin Cancer Centre 5 times a week, and the income the family has lost add up quickly. We've already sold what we could and have begun borrowing for groceries. Every kindness from you takes weight off her shoulders. Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment. Where the $8,200 goes: • Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $4,550 • Scans and lab work: $790 • Transport to Dublin Cancer Centre: $560 • Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $420 • Household costs while unable to work: $1,880 I'll keep this page updated with receipts as things happen. - Seamus

Updates from Seamus

  1. 34% there. I made the first payment toward scans and lab work. Thank you.

  2. Good news. Because of your gifts ($1,291 in total) I made the first payment toward transport to Dublin Cancer Centre. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.
