Spanish Town
I'm the first person in my family to go to university. I'm studying a master's in public health at Spanish Town Community College, and I'm one semester away from graduating. I have worked as a delivery rider to pay my way, but this term my hours were cut and I have an unpaid balance of $1,350. The registrar has told me I can't enroll for the next term until the balance is cleared. I have a distinction average, and my academic advisor has written in support of my application for a payment plan. Graduating means a stable job and the chance to support my younger siblings. Without enrolling this term I'd lose my place and my scholarship eligibility. I'm not asking for a handout - I want to finish what I started and then help the next student. The payment will go directly to the Spanish Town Community College bursar's office. I'll post the receipt. Where the $1,350 goes: • Outstanding tuition balance: $860 • Final term tuition: $350 • Exam and lab fees: $95 • Textbooks and materials: $45 You're what makes this possible, and I'll never forget it.

  • wishing you the best, Rochelle. Your post was clear and honest.

    • Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Rochelle.

Outstanding tuition balance is $860 of it. Everything else is listed in the story and nothing outside that list comes out of this page. Let me know if you want more detail.

Sending good thoughts. It takes guts to ask. Well done. After 19 years in nursing I know how hard it is to ask for anything. All the best.

Take care, Rochelle. Hope this works out for you. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected. All the best!

                • Keep going. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. Put this on a community board in Eldoret this morning. Blessings

                    • Hang in there, Rochelle. As a teacher I love seeing someone work this hard to learn. Don't give up. Take care.
