Restoring the Pioneer canal: a volunteer-led project in Surabaya
Volunteers are restoring the Pioneer canal in Surabaya; $300 covers saplings, tools and waste removal.
🇮🇩 Surabaya, East Java, Indonesia1,962 views
The Pioneer canal has been used as an informal dump for years. This October, 40 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 191 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the local forestry office, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted.
Where the $300 goes:
• Tools and protective gear: $80
• Native saplings and stakes: $100
• Waste removal and skip hire: $120
Thanks for reading all this.

Sending good thoughts, Dinda. Hope this works out for you. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected.
