Plant 4,750 native trees around the Liberty wetland in Amsterdam
Help us clean and replant the Liberty wetland before the November planting window closes.
🇳🇱 Netherlands469 views
The Liberty wetland has been used as an informal dump for years. This August, 59 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 117 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the local forestry office, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted.
Where the $2,100 goes:
• Tools and protective gear: $550
• Native saplings and stakes: $1,250
• Waste removal and skip hire: $300
Even a small gift gets used right away and I'll thank you myself.

hope things get better soon. Everyone deserves a bit of help sometimes. Don't give up.
thanks for sharing this. This could happen to any of us. I went through something like this 7 years ago and strangers helped me out. Thinking of Amsterdam.
Hope things get better soon, Marieke. Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. My cousin had a similar thing happen so this one hit home. Thinking of Amsterdam.
