Plant 1,650 native trees around the Baobab riverbank in Zaria
A neighborhood-led restoration of the Baobab riverbank needs $400 for saplings and equipment.
🇳🇬 Nigeria706 views
The Baobab riverbank has been used as an informal dump for years. This April, 52 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 140 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the city parks department, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted.
Where the $400 goes:
• Native saplings and stakes: $220
• Tools and protective gear: $60
• Waste removal and skip hire: $90
• Signage and educational materials: $30
With deep gratitude,
Bello

Thanks for sharing this. It takes guts to ask. Well done. Thinking of Zaria.
best of luck. Your post was clear and honest. This is the second need I've supported on here and the first that made me cry. All the best
Praying for you. Shared it with a few friends. My husband and I read this together. Love from Makassar.
Shared this with my family. My neighbor in Glasgow donated after I showed her your page.
Keep going, Bello. Shared it with a few friends. We had a similar scare last year, I know what it feels like. God bless
