Plant 1,200 native trees around the Acacia canal in Jinja
A neighborhood-led restoration of the Acacia canal needs $250 for saplings and equipment.
🇺🇬 Eastern Region, Uganda1,124 views
The Acacia canal has been used as an informal dump for years. This August, 100 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 182 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the city parks department, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted.
Where the $250 goes:
• Native saplings and stakes: $75
• Tools and protective gear: $30
• Waste removal and skip hire: $115
• Signage and educational materials: $30
Thanks for reading all this.

is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Collins
It's all in the list in the story. native saplings and stakes is the big one at $75, I'll post a receipt when it's paid. Let me know if you want more detail.
Sending good thoughts, Collins. This could happen to any of us. We had a similar scare last year, I know what it feels like. Blessings
