Volunteers in Salem are raising $400 for a community fridge at Pioneer Park.

For eight years the neighborhood has asked for a community fridge. This year a group of 23 volunteers, including two retired carpenters, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for Pioneer Park, but no funding. We have received donated timber, and the remaining cost is $400. It will serve about 272 people, including local farmers and market traders. We'll hold a build day in April and everyone is invited. We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos. Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered. Where the $400 goes: • Materials: $260 • Permits and inspections: $60 • Safety equipment and signage: $35 • Tools hire and delivery: $45 Glad we found this place.
