Maria is the first person in the family to go to university. She is studying a nursing degree at Newcastle upon Tyne State College, and is one term away from graduating. She has worked as a tutor to pay the way, but this term the hours were cut and there's an unpaid balance of $4,300. The registrar has said Maria can't enroll for the next term until the balance is cleared. Maria has a 3.6 average, and a faculty supervisor has written in support. Graduating means a stable job and the chance to support the younger siblings. Without enrolling this term Maria would lose her place and scholarship eligibility.
