My delivery van: Githinji's only way to earn a living
Githinji drives for a living in Entebbe, and a broken transmission has stopped all income for 8 weeks.

I make my living with my delivery van. 8 weeks ago the transmission failed, and the mechanic says the repair will cost $250. Without the vehicle I earn nothing.
I have been borrowing from friends to pay rent, and now I have run out of people to ask.
I support my 3 children. Before the breakdown I worked twelve hours a day, six days a week. I have been offered extra shifts for the next three months if I can just get the vehicle working.
I have a written estimate from a certified mechanic and will upload it here.
All money will go toward the parts and labor on the estimate, with a small amount for road tax and insurance renewal.
Where the $250 goes:
• transmission replacement (parts): $160
• Labor charges: $20
• Road tax and insurance renewal: $30
• Towing and inspection: $40
I'll pay this kindness forward the moment I'm able to.

Good luck, Githinji. It takes guts to ask. Well done. I'll check back for the next update. All the best.
Thanks for sharing this, Githinji. It takes guts to ask. Well done. I have a 13 year old who wants to send good wishes too.
wishing you peace. Shared this with my family. Sent it to 9 people at work.
Shared it with a few friends. We had a similar scare last year, I know what it feels like. Greetings from Erie!
