Let's build a free library and reading room together in Johannesburg
A community-led a free library and reading room at the Liberty health centre yard that will serve 374 neighbors.

For ten years the neighborhood has asked for a free library and reading room. This year a group of 25 volunteers, including local mothers, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Liberty health centre yard, but no funding.
We have received donated timber, and the remaining cost is $300.
It will serve about 374 people, including children, seniors and people with disabilities. We'll hold a build day in June and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered.
Where the $300 goes:
• Materials: $240
• Tools hire and delivery: $50
• Safety equipment and signage: $10
Whatever you can give, even just sharing this page, means a lot.

Updates from Tshepo
Update from Johannesburg: the first invoice got paid this week. We're at 36% of the goal. Thank you for believing in us.
27% there. I made the first payment toward tools hire and delivery. Thank you.
Good news. Because of your gifts ($37 in total) I made the first payment toward materials. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.
