Let's build a free library and reading room together in Houston

For eight years the neighborhood has asked for a free library and reading room. This year a group of 26 volunteers, including local mothers, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for Acacia Primary School, but no funding. We have received donated tools, and the remaining cost is $1,350. It will serve about 244 people, including local farmers and market traders. We'll hold a build day in October and everyone is invited. We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos. All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance. Where the $1,350 goes: • Tools hire and delivery: $480 • Permits and inspections: $340 • Safety equipment and signage: $530 With deep gratitude, Kylie
