For ten years the neighborhood has asked for a free library and reading room. This year a group of 29 volunteers, including the neighborhood football club, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for Freedom Primary School, but no funding. We have received donated volunteer hours worth about $165, and the remaining cost is $1,500. It will serve about 228 people, including local farmers and market traders. We'll hold a build day in June and everyone is invited. We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos. Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered. Where the $1,500 goes: • Materials: $1,150 • Permits and inspections: $145 • Safety equipment and signage: $95 • Tools hire and delivery: $110 Glad we found this place. - Małgorzata

I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. Put this on a community board in Kakamega this morning. God bless.
