Las Cruces
In September I was diagnosed with a benign brain tumor. My surgeon at Las Cruces Regional Medical Center recommended a craniotomy, and I have been placed on the schedule for November. The hospital's financial office gave me a written estimate of $6,250, and after what the government subsidy will pay, I'm still $3,700 short. Doctors at Las Cruces Regional Medical Center told me a benign brain tumor will get worse without a craniotomy. I work as a restaurant cook, and I have saved what I can, but the estimate of $6,250 is far beyond what I've. Until the surgery I can't work full days, and my hours as a restaurant cook have already been cut. Every week of waiting means more pain and a bigger risk. The recovery period is expected to take about 7 weeks. I'll not be able to walk without help during that time, so this has become a financial emergency as well as a medical one. I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section. Where the $3,700 goes: • Physiotherapy sessions: $620 • Post-operative medication: $440 • Hospital stay (4 nights): $2,150 • Travel and lodging for the family: $200 • Pre-operative tests and imaging: $290 Even a small gift gets used right away and I'll thank you myself.

Updates from Marcus

  1. Good news. Because of your gifts ($779 in total) I made the first payment toward travel and lodging for the family. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.

  • Hang in there, Marcus. Wishing Marcus a smooth procedure and a full recovery. The breakdown of costs made it easy to trust. Love from Tuxtla Gutiérrez.

Keep going. Look after yourselves too, caregivers need rest. I hope October is when things finally get easier

      • Take care, Marcus. Shared it with a few friends. We had a similar scare last year, I know what it feels like. Take care.

        • Stay strong, Marcus. Gave what I could, wish it was more. After 28 years in customer support I know how hard it's to ask for anything.

          • Hope it all works out, Marcus. I work in healthcare and wanted you to know people are on your side. Blessings
