Karl was diagnosed with osteoarthritis in the right knee in October. The surgeon at Gothenburg Regional Medical Center recommended ACL reconstruction, and He is scheduled for January. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $6,250, and after what my insurance will pay we're still $4,450 short. my son has been in and out of Gothenburg Regional Medical Center since October. The doctors say osteoarthritis in the right knee will get worse without ACL reconstruction. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $6,250 is more than we can find. While we wait, Karl struggles with daily life and can't stand for more than ten minutes. His family has taken turns caring for him, and I've cut my own work hours to be there. Recovery is expected to take about 6 weeks. During that time Karl won't be able to stand for more than ten minutes, so the costs keep growing.
