Gareth was diagnosed with a rare sarcoma in April. The oncology team at Bloemfontein Regional Medical Center has planned 8 rounds of treatment, starting in August. He will be away from work for about 5 weeks.
Gareth is 28, worked as a construction supervisor until April, and has always been the one who looks after everyone else. Now it's our turn to look after him.
Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, trips to Bloemfontein Regional Medical Center 3 times a week, and the income the family has lost add up quickly.
We've already sold what we could and have begun borrowing for groceries. Every kindness from you takes weight off his shoulders.
Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment.
Where the $2,000 goes:
• Scans and lab work: $240
• Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $1,150
• Household costs while unable to work: $550
• Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $60
