Fernando is the first person in the family to go to university. He is studying a degree in civil engineering at the Niterói Institute of Technology, and is two terms away from graduating. He has worked as a library assistant to pay the way, but this term the hours were cut and there's an unpaid balance of $1,500.
The registrar has said Fernando can't enroll for the next term until the balance is cleared. Fernando has a 3.9 average, and a faculty supervisor has written in support.
Graduating means a stable job and the chance to support the younger siblings. Without enrolling this term Fernando would lose his place and scholarship eligibility.
Fernando isn't asking for a handout - He wants to finish what He started and help the next student.
Everything raised goes to the university's accounts office toward the outstanding balance and the final term's fees.
Where the $1,500 goes:
• Outstanding tuition balance: $600
• Final term tuition: $690
• Exam and lab fees: $85
• Textbooks and materials: $125
