Busisiwe was diagnosed with a cleft palate needing repair in August. The surgeon at Saint Mary Hospital recommended valve repair surgery, and She is scheduled for November. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $1,400, and after what the government subsidy will pay we're still $1,050 short.
my sister has been in and out of Saint Mary Hospital since August. The doctors say a cleft palate needing repair will get worse without valve repair surgery. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $1,400 is more than we can find.
While we wait, Busisiwe struggles with daily life and can't stand for more than ten minutes. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there.
The recovery period is expected to take about 6 weeks. During that time Busisiwe won't be able to stand for more than ten minutes, so the costs keep growing.
