Fighting prostate cancer: help Raquel afford treatment in Uberlândia

Raquel is facing prostate cancer and the cost of treatment, travel and care at home is far beyond what the family can cover.

Raquel was diagnosed with prostate cancer in October. The oncology team at the Uberlândia Oncology Institute has planned 6 rounds of treatment, starting in January. She will be away from work for about 12 weeks. Raquel is 39, worked as a primary school teacher until October, and has always been the one who looks after everyone else. Now it's our turn to look after her. Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, trips to the Uberlândia Oncology Institute 2 times a week, and the income the family has lost add up quickly. We've already sold what we could and have begun borrowing for groceries. Every kindness from you takes weight off her shoulders. I'll post every invoice and receipt as an update so donors can follow where each gift goes. Where the $3,950 goes: • Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $100 • Household costs while unable to work: $610 • Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $3,000 • Transport to the Uberlândia Oncology Institute: $240 I'll keep this page updated with receipts as things happen. - Gabriel

Updates from Gabriel

  1. Small update. $710 so far, the plan for transport to the Uberlândia Oncology Institute is now scheduled.

  2. Good news. Because of your gifts ($326 in total) I made the first payment toward chemotherapy and medication not covered. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.
