Fighting Hodgkin lymphoma: help Mateo afford treatment in Grand Rapids
Mateo is facing Hodgkin lymphoma and the cost of treatment, travel and care at home is far beyond what the family can cover.

Mateo was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma in April. The oncology team at the Grand Rapids Oncology Institute has planned 12 rounds of treatment, starting in July. He will be away from work for about 3 weeks.
Mateo is 26, worked as a bakery worker until April, and has always been the one who looks after everyone else. Now it's our turn to look after him.
Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, trips to the Grand Rapids Oncology Institute 5 times a week, and the income the family has lost add up quickly.
We've already sold what we could and have begun borrowing for groceries. Every kindness from you takes weight off his shoulders.
Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment.
Where the $12,450 goes:
• Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $7,750
• Scans and lab work: $970
• Transport to the Grand Rapids Oncology Institute: $1,250
• Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $580
• Household costs while unable to work: $1,900
