Feed 299 families each week at the Second Helping in New Orleans
Maryam runs a volunteer pantry feeding 299 families; this fund restocks shelves for the school holidays.

Since 2020, our volunteer team has run the Second Helping every Wednesday from the back of the old library basement. We started with 29 families, and now we feed 299 each week.
Donations have dropped by about 47% this school holidays, while the line has grown every single week.
We rely on volunteers - 16 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the New Orleans market and keep every receipt.
Each $55 feeds a family of four for a week.
All of the funds go to groceries, fresh produce, and cold-storage costs.
Where the $2,650 goes:
• Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $2,300
• Baby formula and diapers: $230
• Refrigeration and electricity: $120
