Feed 232 families each week at the Second Helping in Caruaru
Help keep a free food pantry open for elderly neighbors in Caruaru.

Since 2020, our volunteer team has run the Second Helping every Monday from the back of the old library basement. We started with 29 families, and now we feed 232 each week.
Donations have dropped by about 38% this summer, while the line has grown every single week.
We rely on volunteers - 12 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Caruaru market and keep every receipt.
Each $15 feeds a family of four for a week.
I'll post the weekly shopping receipts and a photo of the shelves each Sunday.
Where the $750 goes:
• Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $360
• Fresh vegetables and fruit: $260
• Baby formula and diapers: $105
• Refrigeration and electricity: $25
I never thought I'd be the one asking, and I'm grateful for every bit of support.
