Since 2021, our volunteer team has run Open Hands Pantry every Monday from the back of a borrowed garage. We started with 19 families, and now we feed 156 each week.
Donations have dropped by about 54% this harvest gap, while the line has grown every single week.
We rely on volunteers - 12 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Rawalpindi market and keep every receipt.
Each $5 feeds a family of four for a week.
All of the funds go to groceries, fresh produce, and cold-storage costs.
Where the $300 goes:
• Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $175
• Fresh vegetables and fruit: $80
• Refrigeration and electricity: $45
Thank you for reading my story.
Updates from Babar
Good news. Because of your gifts ($45 in total) I made the first payment toward refrigeration and electricity. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.
Small update. $45 so far, I made the first payment toward rice, beans, flour and oil.
