Emergency hernia repair for Mateo: covering what insurance won't
After osteoarthritis in the right knee, Mateo was cleared for emergency hernia repair, but the bill is more than we can manage.

Mateo was diagnosed with osteoarthritis in the right knee in December. The surgeon at Miami Community Hospital recommended emergency hernia repair, and He is scheduled for February. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $7,250, and after what my employer's plan will pay we're still $5,800 short.
my father has been in and out of Miami Community Hospital since December. The doctors say osteoarthritis in the right knee will get worse without emergency hernia repair. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $7,250 is more than we can find.
While we wait, Mateo struggles with daily life and can't work a full shift. His family has taken turns caring for him, and I've cut my own work hours to be there.
Recovery is expected to take about 7 weeks. During that time Mateo won't be able to work a full shift, so the costs keep growing.
