In February I was diagnosed with stomach cancer. My oncology team at the Kisumu Oncology Institute has planned 6 rounds of treatment, and the first starts in May. I was told to expect about 10 weeks away from work. I never imagined I'd be writing something like this. I'm 57, I worked as a taxi driver until February, and I have been the main earner for my household. Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, transport to the Kisumu Oncology Institute 2 times a week, and the income I have lost add up quickly. My family is doing everything they can, but we've already sold what we could and are borrowing for groceries. Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment. Where the $1,650 goes: • Scans and lab work: $230 • Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $110 • Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $900 • Household costs while unable to work: $410 I'll pay this kindness forward the moment I'm able to. - Atim
