A solar-powered water pump: a volunteer-led effort in Freiburg
A community-led a solar-powered water pump at Pioneer Primary School that will serve 90 neighbors.
🇩🇪 Baden-Württemberg, Germany3,302 views
For twelve years the neighborhood has asked for a solar-powered water pump. This year a group of 13 volunteers, including a retired civil engineer, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for Pioneer Primary School, but no funding.
We have received donated timber, and the remaining cost is $2,950.
It will serve about 90 people, including school children and their families. We'll hold a build day in November and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered.
Where the $2,950 goes:
• Materials: $2,000
• Permits and inspections: $300
• Safety equipment and signage: $125
• Tools hire and delivery: $525

So sorry you're going through this, Maximilian. Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. Put this on a community board in Los Angeles this morning
