A solar-powered water pump: a volunteer-led effort in Duisburg
We have the land, the volunteers and the plan for a solar-powered water pump - we need $2,700 for materials.
🇩🇪 Duisburg, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany941 views
For five years the neighborhood has asked for a solar-powered water pump. This year a group of 18 volunteers, including two retired carpenters, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the old Unity bus depot, but no funding.
We have received donated tools, and the remaining cost is $2,700.
It will serve about 81 people, including young people who have nowhere safe to play. We'll hold a build day in November and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered.
Where the $2,700 goes:
• Permits and inspections: $280
• Materials: $2,050
• Tools hire and delivery: $370
Every share and every dollar helps.
