A skate park: a volunteer-led effort in Dar es Salaam
We have the land, the volunteers and the plan for a skate park - we need $450 for materials.
🇹🇿 Dar es Salaam, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania1,629 views
For three years the neighborhood has asked for a skate park. This year a group of 11 volunteers, including a retired civil engineer, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Sycamore health centre yard, but no funding.
We have received donated a pump, and the remaining cost is $450.
It will serve about 243 people, including young people who have nowhere safe to play. We'll hold a build day in November and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.
Where the $450 goes:
• Materials: $310
• Permits and inspections: $35
• Safety equipment and signage: $55
• Tools hire and delivery: $50
Thanks for reading all this.

is there anything that isn't money that would help Musyoka?
Thank you. If you're in Dar es Salaam I'll say if something practical comes up. For now sharing this is great. I'll keep the page updated.
Wishing you the best, Musyoka. Hope you get there.
Hope things get better soon. Your post was clear and honest. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected. Greetings from Gazipur.
You're not alone, Musyoka. Hope you get there.
Sending strength. More neighborhoods should do this. Blessings.
Praying for you, Musyoka. Looking forward to the next update. My late mom used to say help given quietly counts double. Greetings from Rotterdam
