A sensory garden for children with autism for the Jacaranda vacant lot: help our neighbors in Sydney
A community-led a sensory garden for children with autism at the Jacaranda vacant lot that will serve 286 neighbors.

For three years the neighborhood has asked for a sensory garden for children with autism. This year a group of 17 volunteers, including a retired civil engineer, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Jacaranda vacant lot, but no funding.
We have received donated paint, and the remaining cost is $3,000.
It will serve about 286 people, including local farmers and market traders. We'll hold a build day in August and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.
Where the $3,000 goes:
• Materials: $2,150
• Permits and inspections: $150
• Safety equipment and signage: $175
• Tools hire and delivery: $525
Even a small gift gets used right away and I'll thank you myself.
