A repair café workshop: a volunteer-led effort in Galle
We have the land, the volunteers and the plan for a repair café workshop - we need $500 for materials.
Anywhere in the world720 views
For five years the neighborhood has asked for a repair café workshop. This year a group of 12 volunteers, including local mothers, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for Unity Park, but no funding.
We have received donated soil and plants, and the remaining cost is $500.
It will serve about 360 people, including school children and their families. We'll hold a build day in November and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered.
Where the $500 goes:
• Materials: $320
• Permits and inspections: $55
• Safety equipment and signage: $85
• Tools hire and delivery: $40
