A rainwater harvesting system for the Baobab health centre yard: help our neighbors in Bakersfield
We have the land, the volunteers and the plan for a rainwater harvesting system - we need $2,900 for materials.
🇺🇸 Bakersfield, California, United States409 views
For eight years the neighborhood has asked for a rainwater harvesting system. This year a group of 15 volunteers, including a retired civil engineer, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Baobab health centre yard, but no funding.
We have received donated soil and plants, and the remaining cost is $2,900.
It will serve about 431 people, including young people who have nowhere safe to play. We'll hold a build day in September and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.
Where the $2,900 goes:
• Materials: $2,350
• Permits and inspections: $370
• Tools hire and delivery: $180

Good luck. I hope things turn around soon. It's not much but it's yours
