A rainwater harvesting system: a volunteer-led effort in Surabaya
Volunteers in Surabaya are raising $150 for a rainwater harvesting system at Lotus Primary School.
🇮🇩 Surabaya, East Java, Indonesia1,448 views
For eight years the neighborhood has asked for a rainwater harvesting system. This year a group of 9 volunteers, including two retired carpenters, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for Lotus Primary School, but no funding.
We have received donated a pump, and the remaining cost is $150.
It will serve about 387 people, including young people who have nowhere safe to play. We'll hold a build day in July and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered.
Where the $150 goes:
• Tools hire and delivery: $25
• Permits and inspections: $30
• Safety equipment and signage: $95
I'll pay this kindness forward the moment I'm able to.
