A rainwater harvesting system: a volunteer-led effort in San Diego
A community-led a rainwater harvesting system at Union Park that will serve 541 neighbors.
Anywhere in the world1,202 views
For eight years the neighborhood has asked for a rainwater harvesting system. This year a group of 8 volunteers, including the parish youth group, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for Union Park, but no funding.
We have received donated tools, and the remaining cost is $650.
It will serve about 541 people, including children, seniors and people with disabilities. We'll hold a build day in November and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.
Where the $650 goes:
• Permits and inspections: $160
• Tools hire and delivery: $190
• Safety equipment and signage: $300
With deep gratitude,
Harper

best of luck. Great idea, hope you get there. Thinking of San Diego.
hope the build day goes well, wish I lived closer. My daughter saw me on my phone and now she wants to give her pocket money.
Thanks for sharing this. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. My late mom used to say help given quietly counts double. Thinking of San Diego.
Stay strong. Hope this works out for you. It's not much but it's yours. Love from Leicester
Best of luck, Harper. Shared this with my family. Love from Lahore.
