A rainwater harvesting system: a volunteer-led effort in Niterói
We have the land, the volunteers and the plan for a rainwater harvesting system - we need $1,350 for materials.
Anywhere in the world554 views
For three years the neighborhood has asked for a rainwater harvesting system. This year a group of 12 volunteers, including two retired carpenters, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Acacia community hall, but no funding.
We have received donated soil and plants, and the remaining cost is $1,350.
It will serve about 354 people, including children, seniors and people with disabilities. We'll hold a build day in September and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered.
Where the $1,350 goes:
• Materials: $1,050
• Permits and inspections: $95
• Safety equipment and signage: $55
• Tools hire and delivery: $150
Please ask me anything in the questions section. I'll answer honestly and quickly.

rooting for you, Valentina. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. The breakdown of costs made it easy to trust.
Thinking of you and your family. More neighborhoods should do this. God bless.
good luck, Valentina. Hope the build day goes well, wish I lived closer. My neighbor in Nottingham donated after I showed her your page.
Hang in there, Valentina. This could happen to any of us. Take care.
Hope it all works out, Valentina. I hope things turn around soon. Wish I lived closer to Malmö so I could bring a meal. All the best.
