A rainwater harvesting system: a volunteer-led effort in Melbourne
A community-led a rainwater harvesting system at the Unity community hall that will serve 447 neighbors.
🇦🇺 Victoria, Australia1,955 views
For ten years the neighborhood has asked for a rainwater harvesting system. This year a group of 23 volunteers, including two retired carpenters, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Unity community hall, but no funding.
We have received donated soil and plants, and the remaining cost is $2,950.
It will serve about 447 people, including children, seniors and people with disabilities. We'll hold a build day in September and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered.
Where the $2,950 goes:
• Materials: $2,450
• Permits and inspections: $85
• Safety equipment and signage: $140
• Tools hire and delivery: $275
Thanks for reading all this.

Stay strong. Gave what I could, wish it was more. Sent it to 33 people at work. All the best.
stay strong. Looking forward to the next update. It's not much but it's yours. God bless.
Keep going, Michael. Looking forward to the next update. I went through something like this 11 years ago and strangers helped me out. Take care.
