Vancouver
My family left Iraq 14 months ago after the war reached our town. We spent time in a camp before we were resettled in Vancouver. We're a family of five and we're safe, but we arrived with very little. Our resettlement agency has provided 3 months of rent, and that support ends in June. I was an engineer in Iraq, and I'm studying the language every evening. Our daughter and son have started school and are doing well. We want nothing more than to be self-sufficient. This fund will help us through the first six months. Funds are managed by a local church-run settlement group, a registered organization, which pays the landlord and suppliers on the family's behalf. Where the $1,500 goes: • Language classes and bus passes: $740 • Phone and internet for school and job search: $250 • Winter clothing and school supplies: $510 Thanks for being kind about this. - Isaiah

  • Good luck, Isaiah. Gave what I could, wish it was more.

    • is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Isaiah

      • Sure. The biggest one is language classes and bus passes, $740. The rest is in the list at the bottom of the post and I'll upload receipts as I pay each one.

    • Shared this with my family. I have a 17 year old who wants to send good wishes too. All the best.

      • Keep going, Isaiah. This could happen to any of us. Greetings from Iztapalapa.
