After fleeing the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Okonkwo family has arrived in Essen with little more than their documents. They need help with a deposit, furniture and the first months.

Essen
My family left the Democratic Republic of Congo 8 months ago after we could no longer live safely. We spent time in a camp before we were resettled in Essen. We're a family of six and we're safe, but we arrived with very little. Our resettlement agency has provided 4 months of rent, and that support ends in September. I was an electrician in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and I'm studying the language every evening. Our daughter and son have started school and are doing well. We want nothing more than to be self-sufficient. This fund will help us through the first six months. Funds are managed by the Essen Welcome Table charity, a registered organization, which pays the landlord and suppliers on the family's behalf. Where the $700 goes: • Winter clothing and school supplies: $330 • Language classes and bus passes: $230 • Phone and internet for school and job search: $140 Every share and every dollar helps. - Claudia

  • this could happen to any of us. I have a 11 year old who wants to send good wishes too.

    • Rooting for you, Claudia. Gave what I could, wish it was more. Wish I lived closer to New Delhi so I could bring a meal. Take care.
