A community garden for Union Park: help our neighbors in Yonkers
We have the land, the volunteers and the plan for a community garden - we need $1,900 for materials.
🇺🇸 New York, United States848 views
For three years the neighborhood has asked for a community garden. This year a group of 19 volunteers, including a retired civil engineer, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for Union Park, but no funding.
We have received donated soil and plants, and the remaining cost is $1,900.
It will serve about 328 people, including children, seniors and people with disabilities. We'll hold a build day in August and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.
Where the $1,900 goes:
• Permits and inspections: $145
• Materials: $1,450
• Safety equipment and signage: $305
I hope life is good to you.

stay strong. Shared this with my family.
is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Isabelle!
Sure. The biggest one is permits and inspections, $145. The rest is in the list at the bottom of the post and I'll upload receipts as I pay each one. Fair thing to want to know.
Praying for you. Hope the build day goes well, wish I lived closer.
Sending strength. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. Greetings from Buenos Aires!
you're not alone, Isabelle. It takes guts to ask. Well done. I told my book club about it and three of them are giving too.
