A community garden: a volunteer-led effort in Alcalá de Henares
A community-led a community garden at the Freedom community hall that will serve 236 neighbors.

For eight years the neighborhood has asked for a community garden. This year a group of 21 volunteers, including a group of teenagers, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Freedom community hall, but no funding.
We have received donated paint, and the remaining cost is $2,100.
It will serve about 236 people, including young people who have nowhere safe to play. We'll hold a build day in August and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered.
Where the $2,100 goes:
• Tools hire and delivery: $350
• Materials: $1,600
• Permits and inspections: $150
