A community fridge for the Union vacant lot: help our neighbors in Colombo

For three years the neighborhood has asked for a community fridge. This year a group of 24 volunteers, including a group of teenagers, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Union vacant lot, but no funding. We have received donated volunteer hours worth about $220, and the remaining cost is $300. It will serve about 167 people, including elderly neighbors living alone. We'll hold a build day in December and everyone is invited. We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos. Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered. Where the $300 goes: • Materials: $165 • Permits and inspections: $30 • Safety equipment and signage: $65 • Tools hire and delivery: $40 I never thought I'd be the one asking, and I'm grateful for every bit of support.
