Wildfire in Arlington: help the Hillcrest neighborhood rebuild

The wildfire damaged 28 homes in the Hillcrest neighborhood. We're raising funds for repairs, supplies and temporary shelter.

Arlington
The wildfire hit the Hillcrest neighborhood on 5 November. My home was one of 28 damaged, and 8 families are still in temporary shelter at the sports club. The first few days we shared what little we had. Now the cleanup has started, but we've no money for materials and winter or the rainy season is coming. Schools in the area have been closed, and the clinic lost its cold storage for vaccines. We're a small community of working families who have never asked for help before. We have formed a volunteer committee, and I'm the treasurer, so I'll post receipts for everything we buy. Funds go to building materials, water purification supplies, bedding, and food for families still in shelters. Where the $7,650 goes: • Roofing sheets and timber: $3,300 • Clean water and purification supplies: $1,100 • Bedding, blankets and mattresses: $1,350 • Food parcels for displaced families: $1,000 • Tools and labor for repairs: $900 I'll pay this kindness forward the moment I'm able to. - Kathleen

  2. Update from Arlington: the first invoice got paid this week. We're at 2% of the goal. Thank you for believing in us.

  3. Small update. $90 so far, I made the first payment toward food parcels for displaced families.

Hope it all works out, Kathleen. It takes guts to ask. Well done. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected.
