Weekly meals for families facing hunger in Kikuyu
The Open Hands Pantry pantry in Kikuyu is running low just as demand rises; $500 will stock it for 7 weeks.

Since 2022, our volunteer team has run Open Hands Pantry every Monday from the back of the mosque courtyard. We started with 29 families, and now we feed 183 each week.
Donations have dropped by about 44% this summer, while the line has grown every single week.
We rely on volunteers - 9 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Kikuyu market and keep every receipt.
Each $10 feeds a family of four for a week.
All of the funds go to groceries, fresh produce, and cold-storage costs.
Where the $500 goes:
• Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $185
• Fresh vegetables and fruit: $170
• Baby formula and diapers: $80
• Refrigeration and electricity: $65
Every share and every dollar helps.
