Valve repair surgery for Wanjiru: covering what insurance won't
A scheduled valve repair surgery in June is out of reach without help covering $1,200 of the cost.

Wanjiru was diagnosed with endometriosis requiring surgery in March. The surgeon at Saint Luke Hospital recommended valve repair surgery, and She is scheduled for June. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $2,000, and after what my insurance will pay we're still $1,200 short.
my mother has been in and out of Saint Luke Hospital since March. The doctors say endometriosis requiring surgery will get worse without valve repair surgery. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $2,000 is more than we can find.
While we wait, Wanjiru struggles with daily life and can't drive. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there.
Rehabilitation is expected to take about 8 weeks. During that time Wanjiru won't be able to drive, so the costs keep growing.
I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section.
Where the $1,200 goes:
• Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $430
• Hospital stay (3 nights): $460
• Pre-operative tests and imaging: $90
• Post-operative medication: $30
• Physiotherapy sessions: $125
• Travel and lodging for the family: $65
Please ask me anything in the questions section. I'll answer honestly and quickly.
