Valve repair surgery for Nilmini: covering what insurance won't
After an aortic valve defect, Nilmini was cleared for valve repair surgery, but the bill is more than we can manage.

Nilmini was diagnosed with an aortic valve defect in January. The surgeon at Dehiwala University Hospital recommended valve repair surgery, and She is scheduled for April. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $3,000, and after what my employer's plan will pay we're still $1,500 short.
my daughter has been in and out of Dehiwala University Hospital since January. The doctors say an aortic valve defect will get worse without valve repair surgery. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $3,000 is more than we can find.
While we wait, Nilmini struggles with daily life and can't drive. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there.
The recovery period is expected to take about 6 weeks. During that time Nilmini won't be able to drive, so the costs keep growing.
I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section.
Where the $1,500 goes:
• Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $750
• Hospital stay (4 nights): $330
• Pre-operative tests and imaging: $105
• Post-operative medication: $75
• Physiotherapy sessions: $145
• Travel and lodging for the family: $95
Thanks for reading all this.

Best of luck, Buddhini. Get well soon.
