Valve repair surgery for Femi: covering what insurance won't
Femi needs valve repair surgery at Saint Anne Hospital and the family is $1,000 short of the hospital's estimate.

In November I was diagnosed with endometriosis requiring surgery. My surgeon at Saint Anne Hospital recommended valve repair surgery, and I have been placed on the schedule for February. The hospital's financial office gave me a written estimate of $1,450, and after what my employer's plan will pay, I'm still $1,000 short.
Doctors at Saint Anne Hospital told me endometriosis requiring surgery will get worse without valve repair surgery. I work as a hotel cleaner, and I have saved what I can, but the estimate of $1,450 is far beyond what I've.
Until the surgery I can't work full days, and my hours as a hotel cleaner have already been cut. Every week of waiting means more pain and a bigger risk.
Rehabilitation is expected to take about 10 weeks. I'll not be able to walk without help during that time, so this has become a financial emergency as well as a medical one.
I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section.
Where the $1,000 goes:
• Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $400
• Hospital stay (5 nights): $270
• Pre-operative tests and imaging: $80
• Post-operative medication: $60
• Physiotherapy sessions: $110
• Travel and lodging for the family: $80
